THE ELECTION IN THIS STATE.

The returns received, are not complete, and not perhaps entirely accurate—but sufficient are received to justify the belief, that the exertions of the federal party have been greater and more successful than we anticipated. If federal electors are chosen in this State, it is to be attributed to the gross deceptions practised upon some heretofore called republicans, and the most scandalous falsehoods propagated to prejudice the public mind against Gen. Jackson. We did hope that the honor would be reserved for New-Hampshire to come out from among the federal States, and give her electoral vote to the Republican candidate for President. But if in that we are disappointed, we can rejoice in common with our political friends throughout the Union, that we have according to the present appearances, by the patriotic efforts of the republican States, succeeded in respect to the GRAND QUESTION, the GREAT and ESSENTIAL POINT. If so, we ought to be not only fully satisfied, but render thanks to that overruling Providence, which has given to the supporters of republicanism a GLORIOUS AND SIGNAL TRIUMPH. Should the result of the National Election be in favor of the republican cause, we trust that the reflux of reason and the powerful efficacy of truth, will, in a few months, restore New-Hampshire to her former attitude in the firm defence of civil liberty and the equal rights and privileges of the people. Of the 51 electoral votes in New-England, 1 only will probably be given to Gen. Jackson.
