MUST KNOW THE WORD OF GOD.
No man can be religious beyond what he knows.
He can
not consecrate except upon the basis of his knowledge of the truth. This is why God's plan of making Christians is to make learners of them first, then teach them the scriptures. A man can not be successful in his religious life unless he base his religion on what God says in the Bible. There are a great many people who start the religious life in a revival meeting, or under the stress of some great sorrow, or something of this kind, and fail. The reason is they based their religious plans and purposes on their feelings and not on the word of God. They were sincere in the start they made, but their faith was in the wrong thing. Feeling and emotions come and go. They can not sustain. They can not free a man from sin. But Christ says, "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." The duty of the church is very clear, that is, teach the Bible to the youth of the land both at home and abroad. You need have no fears for the future of any one where they are taught the scriptures in childhood. But unless they are thus taught, they may join the church after they are grown, but you need not expect much of them. Brother, are your children in the Sunday school? Are you there helping to carry on the work?
