"ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD" SAYS DR. DAVIDSON IN SUNDAY SERMON

Dr. R. L. Davidson preached to another large audience at the Broadway Baptist church Sunday morning on the subject: "The Christian's Allies," from the text, "All things work together for good to those that love God." He said in part:

"The man of God is not alone in this world. Mighty forces both seen and unseen, are his allies. He fights a winning battle.

All Things

"This comprehensive term sweeps the universe. Man is related to the dust beneath his feet: to the stars aflame in the sky: to human life in all of its phases of good and ill, in all its history, past, present and to come: to the God above who made him and to the demons beneath who seek to defile him. There are so many things in this universe. Paul included them all—sickness and health: adversity and prosperity: failure and success; pain and pleasure: good and ill.

All Things Work

"There is nothing static in the universe. All things work. Bees, ants, flies, stars, germs, weeds, thorns, briars, angels, demons, death. This is a busy universe.

All Things Work Together

"There seem to be two forces operating in the world—a benevolent and a malevolent one. They seem to be antagonistic to each other and the malevolent forces appear often to prevail and to threaten the utter overthrow and defeat of the man of God. Notwithstanding appearances, God is supreme. The royal scepter has not slipped from his hand. All is under His control. There is a divine purpose running through all human history. Only God can bring antagonistic forces into co-operation and make them work together for the accomplishment of a divine end.

All Things Work Together for Good

"How can pain and pleasure; adversity and prosperity: sickness and health: failure and success: poverty and plenty: slander and praise, work together for my good? Only God can yoke them up and work them together. He is working not for my temporal, transient pleasure but for my eternal good. The tree that is to bear fruit needs the frost of winter as well as the heat of summer; the night as well as the day; the storm as well as the calm. All things are needful for the welfare of the man of God. We dare not reject anything. When the physician has prescribed some medicine, we go to the apothecary to have it compounded; and he takes one ingredient from this phial, and another from that, and another from elsewhere: any one of these taken alone might kill outright but when they have been well compounded and mixed they work together for a perfect cure. God knows how to prescribe for us.

Love of God

"All things work together for good to those that love God. When out of harmony with God the whole universe fights against a man. When in harmony with God all things work for his good. Love to God is the alchemist's stone that transmutes all base metals into gold. It is the master hand that harmonizes the discordant forces of earth and hitches them up and causes them to work together for our eternal good. He who loves God is assured that all things are his allies."
