We can with Pleasure acquaint the Publick, that by the Returns made by the several Colonels it appears, that about 5000 Men, including Officers, are already enlisted for the intended Expedition; and considering beating Orders have not been out above 20 Days, our most sanguine Expectations have been exceeded.—It is hoped that by the 2d of May all our Regiments will be full, without an Impress, otherwise a Draught will be made from the Militia on that Day to complete the Number of 7000, which is exclusive of those who are in our Vessels of War, and employ'd in Garrisons and Scouts on the Frontiers of this Province, and the many who have and are daily entering into his Majesty's Service as Boat-Men, Rangers, Artificers, &c. for both the Western and Eastern Expeditions—a happy Effect of the Encouragement receiv'd from his Majesty, and of the Assurances given by the Ministry, that the War should be prosecuted this Year with the utmost Vigour, and that Canada would be the Object.—Accounts receiv'd from the other New-England Governments agree, that a good Spirit prevails among them also.
Some Persons who came from Albany last Week report, that there is already got up to Fort Edward, where is a numerous Garrison, Provisions sufficient to supply an Army of 20,000 Men for 3 Months, and that proper Dispositions had been made by those whose Province it is, for the early conveying of Stores, Artillery, Provisions, &c.—Money is not now wanting. Nothing to procure Carriages, &c. — the Experience of past Years may instruct us ; and as there has been full Time to provide and engage every Thing necessary, we have the best Reason to hope, that our Army will not now be retarded in their Operations, nor the Spirit and Zeal of the Inhabitants of the N. England Provinces be again damp'd and dissipated by long and inactive Campaigns.
