Midway, August 5th, 1872.

Editors Register: Several weeks have elapsed since Midway has been represented in the Register consequently we will give a few items. Last week the Greeleyites filled our quiet neighborhood with the startling intelligence that a political meeting would be held at TenEyck's grove, where Mr. Crissman, of Abingdon, Knox County, would address the people, on the political issues of the day. At 4 P. M. on the 2nd, inst. Mr. Crissman and three other very prominent Greeley orators, appeared to break the monotony. The result was four speakers, and the audience numbered three, all told.

The Democrats of Young Hickory held their precinct meeting last Friday. It proved to be rather "warm" in consequence of a very small sprinkling of Greeley. We are informed that the delegates were instructed to carry out the Democratic principle as it was in days of yore, and resolutions passed to support in future, no man that advocates Greeley or his platform. The "Chappaqua Farmer" has but few adherents in Young Hickory. The Democrats as a body are anxiously awaiting the result of the Louisville convention, and are hoping for a candidate of their own.

Farmers are generally done haying, and stacking. Threshing has commenced and so far as heard from wheat and rye is a good yield. The scarcity of locals compels us to be brief.
