THE STORM.
Considerable quantities of rain fell on Sunday and yesterday morning. About 2 o'clock in the afternoon, it began to descend in torrents, accompanied with a strong wind, which shortly after blew a violent gale from the N N. W. breaking windows, overturning awning posts, and prostrating trees which had buffetted the storm for years. We understand that a boat, having on board seven colored persons coming from a camp meeting, was upset nearly opposite to Race street Wharf, and that five out of seven were drowned. The extent of damage done to persons and property has not yet been ascertained; but we believe that it is not as great as was at first supposed.
