New York Election.-The election goes all one way, and that not the right way. The thing we observe that different papers are indulging their readers with speculation on the causes of the Whig rout. When all is known, we too shall try our hand at giving reasons. Meantime we remark, as indicative of the discrimination of this Commercial Metropolis, that Isaac L. Varian, who is a laughing stock even among his own party, for his quite remarkable ignorance, has been preferred to a seat in the highest Court of Appeals, over Daniel Lord, Jr. quite as remarkable for his peculiar qualifications and extensive legal acquirements and experience. To those hesitating Whigs who have not voted, and to those Locos who have, and have anything to lose, we could wish no worse luck than to have any suit in which they are interested tried by such an incompetent judge as Mr. Varian. Morris Franklin, happily, as some redemption, beats Elijah F. Purdy—so that we have one competent Senator. Of the Assembly ticket in this city we have elected three-but they will be in a forlorn minority. The chief State officers will be chosen by the Legislature now elected-viz: Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General, and Surveyor General. Of course, the present incumbents will all be displaced by Locofocos, for even if we retain a majority in the Senate, the Whigs will obey the mandate of the Constitution that requires them to go into joint ballot, even though by so doing they cut off the heads of their own friends.--N. Y. American.
