Walking from New York to San Francisco, bearing the stars and stripes around him, John Walsh arrived in the city this morning after having spent 50 days making the journey across the eastern plains and wading through deep snow banks on top of the great divide.
Brown as a berry, yet with a step as light as if he had just started on the long trip, he visited local Elks and Eagles and newspaper offices that he might register with them and thus leave proof that he had visited and stopped in the city.
Should he be successful in reaching his destination within the limit of 90 days, he will be enriched to the tune of $5,000. He must make his expenses along the way and is limited to selling his autograph in doing this.
He said this morning: "Yes, I have gone hungry; but it always gives a fellow a good story to go that way. I waded in snow up to my neck in crossing the mountains, and have all that I want of it. There were places that were almost impossible to cross; but I made it, and will soon be on my way again."
He is feeling fine, and with long muscular legs, he bids fair to accomplish what he is after and wind up in the western city ahead of time.
The people who are following him should arrive in a couple of days.-Glenwood Avalanche.
