Two county winners in 4-H club work were announced recently by Mrs. Lois Brusven, county home demonstration agent. They are Lorraine Dewald poultry, and Jean Kern, clothing.
Miss Dewald. a member of the Pride of the Big Horn club, received the county 4-H medal for her project of 300 pullets.
She started in April with six-week-old Austra White chicks. By October they weighed an average of four pounds. Lorraine figured she spent about an hour a day working on this project which netted $314.50. The total value for eggs and poultry on hand, used. or sold was $682.50.
She kept a record of the costs which were $368. She is planning to continue the project next year and raise some capons.
In her two years of clothing work Miss Kern of the Halfway 4-H club has made 18 garments, saving about $60.
She exhibited in Hardin and Billings each year, winning 13 blue ribbons and one red ribbon. Both years Jean placed fourth in clothing judging in the county and placed second high in Billings last year and fifth this year.
She has always placed in the blue award group in the style reviews. Last year she represented the county at the state Club Congress, receiving a red award. As a junior leader this year she gave about 18 clothing demonstrations to other club members.
