The maintenance of the safety of the citizens of Dunn through its Police Department takes a $42,025 bite out of the budget for the coming year, the majority or $30,840 for salaries with an additional $960 set up for extra help.
Top salary goes to Chief A. A. Cobb, who draws $3,600 annually
Salaries of two Sergeants at $2,820 have been set up, although one of these offices is vacant, with Sergeant Corby Wood holding the other.
Two Corporals. Francis W. Hall and K. M. Fail each draw annual salaries of $2,700. Five white patrolmen, Hargus Davidson, W. C Williamson, Aaron Johnson, E. J. Whaley. and W. W. Lassiter draw salaries of $2,640 annually. The two Negro patrolmen, John Brockington and Alex Thompson each get $1,500 annually.
Uniforms, badges, etc., to keep our officers looking their best cost the town a tidy $1,600 for the year. A new car is figured in the budget at a cost of $3,500 and servicing of the police radio will take $500. Prisoners must eat and the sum of $1,000 is set up in the budget to provide them with meals. Postage and telephone and telegraph will take up another $225. Printing is budgeted for $75 and advertising $20.
METER MAINTENANCE
Those parking meters, cussed and discussed by Dunn citizens, must be maintained, and this will cost $300, The sum of $75 is set up just for the cleaning of the jail bed clothes.
Office supplies will cost $100; fuel, $600; gas, oil and lubricants. $500 and motor vehicle parts

Paints, oils and glass for up-keep will take $700, official bonds, $75; registrations and subscript-ions, $5; furniture and fixtures, $100 and new equipment, $3,500.
For a town the size of Dunn, however, this budget of $42,025 is a modest one for this essential service to the safety of the pub-lic. The taxpayer assuredly gets his money's worth.
