ANOTHER FIRE FROM PITTSBURG.--The Pittsburgh Chronicle made a statement on the 31st ult., regarding some cotton, in which, for the purpose of throwing ridicule upon Wheeling and injuring the Steamboat Pike (which to the horror of Pittsburghers, being owned in Cincinnati, dares to intrude into the waters of the upper Ohio,) it declares that the Pike would not carry freight, she had shipped, to Pittsburgh and left it on the wharf at Wheeling--that the Utica was sent for it, was compelled to load it at the night, not being able to get any assistance in the place--&c. We will state the facts in that matter leaving the public to form their own opinions upon the subject.-- The Pike came up, discharged her freight at Wheeling, and started up with the Cotton and other articles for Pittsburgh. The water was too low, and from Beach Bottom she was compelled to return. She discharged her freight, the cotton being left upon the wharf. and her charges paid by the consignee at this place. In two or three days, the Utica, a small boat, came down from Pittsburgh and desired to load the cotton from the wharf in the night, the consignee not being present, we presume the officers could find no one here who would help them to steal freight without paying charges; and, as the Pittsburgh editor says, the boat hands loaded it under the direction of the officers and a clerk of the house to which it belonged. When the consignee arrived in the morning, the cotton was loaded, and the boat nearly ready to start. The payment of the charges of the Pike were refused, and the consignee let the boat off upon their making a positive promise, to settle the same satisfactorily to both parties on the next arrival of the Pike at Pittsburgh'. These are strictly facts, and we leave the Pittsburgh scribblers to make the most honor they can out of a transaction which we look upon as disgraceful to the house which owned the cotton.
