The following Events, as Promotions, Marriages, Deaths, &c. &c. are afforded by the Harriot Packet.
Sir Richard Worley is appointed a Clerk of the Board of Green Cloth.- Baronet, Esq; is chosen member for Dunwich.- The Prince of Hesse has given the command of the late Gen. De Heister's regiment to General Dickman.- Lieut. Boucher who bravely defended the Druid sloop of war, is appointed to command her.
Dec. 23. Seven men of war and two bomb tenders are to be added this Spring to the naval force in America. The Earls of Winchelsea and Aylesford were on the 20th of December appointed Lords of the King's Bed-Chamber.... The Marquis of Lothian is appointed to be Colonel of the first troop of Horse Guards, and Lieut. Colonel Edward Smith, of the 4th regiment of horse, to be Lieutenant Colonel of the second troop of Horse Grenadier Guards. The promotion of this gentleman very sufficiently evinces that the rebel intelligencers in England, styling themselves Patriots, have not been able to lessen the credit of the noble Lord who firmly presides over the American department in the amplest confidence of his most gracious sovereign. Lord Mahon, son of Earl Stanhope is married to a daughter of the Earl of Chatham. Lord Onslow was appointed Comptroller of the Household on the 20th of Dec. in the room of Sir William Meredith. On the 14th of Dec. died Lady Selina Bathurst, daughter of the old Earl Ferrers.- Sir John Strachan died, on the 28th of December.
Lady Caroline Stuart, daughter of the Earl of Bute, is married to Mr. Dawson Esq; a member of parliament in Ireland, a gentleman of great property in that kingdom...- Lady Louisa Evelyn Gower, to Archibald M'Donald, Esq; member for Hingdon...- The Hon. Thomas Fitzmaurice, to Lady Mary O'Brien, daughter of Lord Inchiquin.- On the 24th of December Lord Ferrers, of Chartley, was married to Miss Helliker, sister and co-heiress to the Lady of Mr. George Onslow..- This same day Lady Lincoln and Lady Bristol were each delivered of a Son, as was Lady Hichenbrooke on New-Years day, likewise on the 4th of January Lady Granby of a son.
Right Rev. Dr. Keppel, Lord Bishop of Exeter, died on the 27th of December.
Baron Haller, the celebrated author and physician, died at Berne on the 4th of December. The Prince of Wales man of war, Capt. Barrington, has brought into Plymouth,- the Spanish, Johnson, laden with rice and Indigo, from Georgia for Nantes, as has the Royal Oak into Portsmouth, the William, Hopkins, from South Carolina to Bourdeaux. The Bedford, Capt. Varro, has taken a vessel from Virginia laden with 180 hogsheads of tobacco. Capt. Sutton of the Porcupine sloop of war has taken a schooner with tobacco and staves,
The Rev. Dr. Harley, is appointed Dean of Windsor, vice Bishop Keppel deceased, who is Succeeded in the See of Exeter by Dr. Ross. Sir William Thomas Bart. of Yapton Place in Sussex. died last Christmas, at Bath.
Lord Longford is appointed to the command of the America, fine new 74. The eldest daughter of Ashteton Cuon, Esq; is married to Sir. George Smith, of Stoke, in Nottinghamshire.--
Lady Anne Mackenzie, daughter of the late Earl of Cromartie, died on the 20th of December at Edinburgh. On the 24th of December the Duchess of Argyll, was delivered of a son. The King has appointed his Grace of Hamilton to be keeper of Lithlithgow Palace and Blackness Castle in Scotland. Doctor Digby to be Dean of Durham, and Doctor Foley, Dean of Worcester...
The Elector of Bavaria died at sixty-one, on the 30th of December at Munich, of the Small-Pox. This event will greatly contribute to keep the cabinets of Louis Sixteenth and Don Carlos perfectly pacific in regard to the concert of Great. Britain.
The Hon. George Damer, was on the 9th of January chosen member for Anstruther, vice Phillip Anstruther, Esq;
Lady Catherine Lowther, relict of Sir William Lowther, of Swillington, in Yorkshire, died last January, and Mr. Fielding, Master of the New Lloyd's Coffee.House, on the 10th of the same month.
