A Foot in Diameter.
A visit to the farm of Z. Kapler,
Monday morning, the scene of the cyclone which swept down upon the
place Sunday night about 9 o'clock,
shows the terrific violence of the
storm. The storm came from the
southeast, and Mr. Kapler informs us
that it was all over in less than a minute and although buildings, trees and
windmill, right at the door, went
crashing to the ground, the violence
of the storm was so great that nothing
was heard of the falling buildings and
trees.
Many of the shingles were
stripped from the roof of the house,
that being moved about an inch on
the foundation. Upon the buildings
destroyed there was no cyclone insurance, it being the purpose of Mr. Kapler to take them down, putting the
material into a new barn of which the
foundation is already in. From Kapler's the storm went directly north in
its path sweeping the windmill of J.
G. Wolliung to the earth. From there
it seems to have risen above the buildings, trees and farms, having spent
its fury. The damage at Kapler's will
amount to several hundred dollars.
While the family were terribly frightened, fortunately no one was injured.
