Full Text

Murder in Florida.

We learned yesterday of a sad occurrence near Pollard. Some negroes of the place had a difficulty with some raftmen, and determined on revenge. They went down the river a short distance, and lay in ambush for the raft of their enemies. While waiting, a raft, which was not the one they were looking for, came down the river. The negroes fired into the crowd, killing one, a man named Soreggins, immediately, and badly wounding three others. The party went back to Pollard, and at last succeeded in arresting five of the negroes. There was a strong disposition among the people of the community to hang the culprits, but law and order prevailed, and they are now in the hands of the law.--Pensacola Mail, 18th.
