Yankees advancing from Newbern.

We have another rumor from Kinston, to the effect that the Yankees are advancing upon Kinston, in two columns, one by the Trenton and the other by the Dover, road and also with their gun-boats up Neuse river. The gunboats were said to be shelling the river as they passed up.

It is said that Col. Sol. Williams, acting Brigadier in command, was concentrating his forces to give them a warm reception.

We do not know what importance to attach to the rumor. We have had so many such rumors and subsequent contradictions, we are unprepared to determine its truth or falsity.

It is understood that the Yankees are in a feeble condition at Newbern as to numbers, and the best policy it strikes us is to concentrate a sufficient force at once at Kinston, to meet them if they are advancing, and to drive them out of Newbern. The ruin brought upon our Eastern Counties, by the miserable policy which resulted in the loss of Hatteras, Roanoke Island, Newbern and Washington, is incalculable. Our unfortunate fellow-citizens in the enemy's lines should be delivered as soon as possible from the clutches of the tyrant. Thousands of negroes have been lost or ruined, and the information we have from the Eastern Counties especially beyond Roanoke, is alarming. Every negro east of Kinston, Tarborough, Hamilton, Windsor, Murfreesboro', &c., should be removed, if possible, from that section. This we advised when Roanoke Island was taken.

P. S. Later accounts indicate that the above, like other rumors, has but little foundation. Two or three steamers are said to have gone up Neuse throwing shells. We learn that Brig. Gen. Clingman has been assigned to the command about Goldsboro' and Kinston.
