NEW YORK-(Special) - An outstanding highlight of the Henry Lincoln Johnson Day Celebration at John Brown Farm, Harpers Ferry, Va. on July 4 will be the dedication of a cabin in honor of Mrs. Nettie Carter Jackson Grand Daughter Ruler of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order Elks of the World.
Daughter Elks and Brothers from all parts of the nation will attend the dedication which has been arranged by Mrs. Mary M. Johnson, wife of the Grand Exalted Ruler, Robert H. Johnson.
Henry Lincoln Johnson Day was mandated by the Elks as a National Holiday to perpetuate the memory of the first man to write a civil rights plank into the platform of a major political party in history. Mr. Johnson who died in 1925, was rated as one of the greatest lawyers and statesmen of his time.
Other features will be a pageant re-enacting the historic raid of John Brown's forces on Harpers Ferry arsenal; the unveiling of a portrait of Mrs. Bertha McKanlass of Detroit, guiding spirit in the development of the Elk National Shrine Program, and Henry Lincoln Johnson Memorial Program highlighting Civil Rights and Education, with J. A. Rogers, technical advisor, in charge of Historical backgrounds, supplying the data and sports and recreational events featuring an all-star East-West vs. North-South baseball game.
