Compliment to Lynchburg—The Corresponding Secretary of the Mt. Vernon Association in his last report published in the Southern Literary Messenger makes the following allusion to the efforts made in this city in behalf of that Association. To Lynchburg, for its patriotic spirit, is justly awarded pre-eminence in Virginia: and too much cannot be said in praise of the energetic exertions of Mrs. Speed. The Rev. Dr. Burrows, the champion of the Mount Vernon cause in this State, delivered an address there, on the 22d February last, before a crowded and enthusiastic audience. The Treasurer of the Association has already received six hundred dollars, the amount of contributions from that city: and it is confidently hoped that other cities of Virginia will follow the lead of Lynchburg, and invite Dr. Burrows to repeat this lecture.
