Full Text

The proceedings of the recent meeting of the friends of Mr. Calhoun, in Charleston, show, throughout, that there is a deep felt, and but partially suppressed feeling at work, against what is believed to be, the intrigue to give Mr. Van Buren the nomination by the National Loco Foco Convention. The meeting objects strongly to the time of the meeting of the Convention, and the organization of that body, proposed by the recent Convention in Virginia. And the elaborate and carefully prepared Report adopted, gives numerous cogent reasons to the friends of Mr. Calhoun, why the Convention should be called at a particular time, and formed in a particular manner—which particular time and manner, it so happens, are especially displeasing and obnoxious to the friends of Mr. Van Buren. There will be more of this before the game is finished.
