NEW-YORK, Dec. 5.

During two or three of our last publications, the current of intelligence has been slack: for sometime before, it had a rapid run in favour of France: of late it has taken a gentle set the other way.

By the ship James, which has arrived, in 49 days from London, we have intelligence to the 10th of October. which states--That the Austrians were in possession of Lannoy and Waterloo; that they had advanced within two leagues of Lisle, had taken from the Republicans seven pieces of cannon, and 30 prisoners, and they were intrenching at Lannoy--That the combined forces are again in Menin--That the Austrians under command of Count Colloredo, who has the command at the siege of Maubeuge, has his head quarters at Betigny--The Prince of Saxe Cobourg and his Royal Highness the Arch Duke Charles, at Bavay--The out-posts driven in, and the siege so close and formidable, that scarce a doubt was entertained, on the 10th of October--That a report that day in circulation, of the actual surrender of Maubeuge was either true, or it very soon would be so--That the French have suffered a very disastrous repulse in the quarter of Vendee--That the masses of French Republicans, begins to melt away--and that the greatest severities are made use of to prevent the alarming progress of desertion--That the English remain in possession of Toulon--That Houchard their late victorious general was conveyed to the Abbey prison; for not having pushed his successes to their (supposed) possible extent--and that the mother of Petion, the late most extolled Patriot, was condemned and executed for having spoken disrespectfully of the Republic.

The following is an extract of a letter from London, per the Mohawk, to a gentleman in Philadelphia, dated 30th September.

"This moment news has come to town that the Duke of Brunswick has taken, killed and wounded, ten thousand of the Republicans. This wants confirmation."
