Extract of a letter from a Gentleman in Philadelphia, to his friend in this town, dated May 13.
'The storm that seemed to have been some time gathering strength, has now burst—The President on Saturday addressed a letter to Col. Pickering, informing him of his determination to make some new arrangements in the Administration of the Department of State, inviting him to resign his office; and as it would be necessary to nominate a successor during the present session of the Senate, he required an answer to be made as early as Monday morning—our friend gave an answer, manly, dignified, and highly honourable to himself: at the close of which he informed the President, that he did not consider it consistent with his honour, or the duty he owed his country, to resign his office at the present time—The consequence was, that a letter of dismissal from office was immediately sent him.'
