Hidalgo County Benefits By Bond Assumption Act
Relief Is Afforded For Road Districts When Texas Assumes A Much Larger Part

EDINBURG, Dec. 19.-(Spl) W. H. Gordon, Austin, auditor for the state board of county and district road indebtedness, told the commissioners court today that a total $87,000 has already been allocated to Hidalgo county under provisions of the new state bond assumption bill and that August or September, 1940, county will begin receiving $2,000 out of every million dollars that is allocated under the bill.

At the same time, Gordon announced he was checking county's claim for $116,000 additional state aid on Highway 107 and 250, recently designated as state highways.

Gordon said his preliminary figures showed the claims would raise state participation in the debt Road District No. 1 from 20 to 40 percent, and in Road District 5 from 21.9 to 39 percent. Under terms of the state bond assumption bill, passed by the last legislature, Hidalgo county will receive 1.29 percent of the excess in state county and district road indebtedness fund. This fund is set aside from a one-cent gasoline tax. The fund will be available by the end of the state's fiscal year, Gordon said and Hidalgo county will receive as its share approximately $2,000 out of every million dollars that is allocated to Texas counties. Only one other county in state, Harris county, will receive more money under the bill than Hidalgo, Gordon stated.

An order was passed by the commissioners court this morning in which the county agrees not to make any claims for refunds on money paid out for rights-of-way highways now assumed by the state. It was pointed out that the county will receive the same amount of money, but will be given the discretion of placing it where it sees fit.

The commissioners court this morning purchased $4,000 in Hidalgo county water improvement refunding bonds, Series 1936, bearing up to 6 percent interest, from E. Watts, McAllen, for 96 cents on the dollar plus interest.

County Judge Oliver J. Aldrich is authorized to execute deeds to federal government on eight requests for federal flood control work.
