Full Text

An elegy On Captain ADAM WALLACE, who lately fell in the defeat at the Waxhaws, South Carolina.

SOARING on the winged horse,
Still sing to thee in martial verse;
To thee who stood to honour's call,
And soldier like who dared to fall.
To thee, the terror of the field,
To thee unknowing how to yield,
I'll sing in tragick numbers tell,
How WALLACE fought and nobly fell.
The muse extatick speaks the name,
And wings her numbers to his fame;
Hail Wallace! happy shade look down,
Fame wreaths for thee a living crown;
Whil'st to your mouldering dust I pay,
The tribute due this friendly lay.
