Transfers Negro Airman From University Of Ala.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala-(SNS)- After his arrival here for a training course at the University of Alabama, a Negro airman was transferred Friday without having attended a class.

Pfc. Phillips J Evans, of the 347th School Squadron and 24 other soldiers arrived at the University Thursday from Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Pfc. Evans spent the night in McCorvey Hall, new three-story brick dormitory on the campus, but his bags were left packed. "I don't know what the trouble was," he said. "It was because I'm a colored fellow, I guess."

The University of Alabama has a contract with the air force to train a number of soldiers as clerks.

An Air Force spokesman said Pfc. Evans was transferred Friday morning "through a mistake in the records."

The spokesman also said Pfc. Evans was transferred Friday morning, but failed to disclose his destination.
