THO' we are constant Readers of your Paper, as well as those who live nearer to you, that we may know what is doing in the World, as well as other Folks. yet must necessarily be a fortnight or three Weeks behind hand of your Neighbours, if we judge proper to tell the Public our Opinion of Things that we see in your Paper, by the same Way-- which as Sons of Liberty and his Majesty's good Subjects (God bless him) we have a right to do as we suppose, as well as other Folks.-- Therefore we could not sooner let you know, how much we are pleased with the Story you told us in your News-Letter the 12th of April, of what the good Folks at Exeter had agreed to do, about living cheaper than they used to do, & we think their agreeing upon a Reformation, seems to argue they thought it needful. And we are apt to think it was not without good Reason, for as we have always understood the gentle Folks there, loved to live up to the tip top of the Fashion -- We are very glad to see this public Proposal, as it gives a good Example, and will doubtless make other Towns not so rich as they do so too, and it seems a comfort to us when we see able Folks. willing to agree to live in some sort as we are forced to do ; it also shows a patriotick Spirit. as we think it is called, that is, when Folks love to see other Folks, love the Welfare of their Country.-- But we should have been gladder to have seen the Vote a little more positive about the not using out-landish Tea, they say they " will use their Influence to prevent the Consumption of it in their Families." We think by this cautious Manner of expressing their Design, that the ancient Eastern Law, that every Man should bear Rule in his own House, did not yet extend so far Westward, as the Town of Exeter : Therefore to render the Resolution expressed in their Vote, quite sufficient,we beg leave to propose by way of amendment, the following additional Vote ; that.is to say,--let a Meeting be called as soon as may be, of all the Wives & Daughters (of full age) of all the Males who attended the first Meeting, that have any such, and let them pass a Vote of Concurrence with the former Vote, that it may without fail be thoroughly executed ; for a failure in such a Case would be vastly worse, than it would to have been wholly silent about Reformation. But if this Method be carried into execution, the Example may be of very great Service, by moving other Towns addicted to the use of this evil enchanting Herb, that it may not be drunk in other Towns, no more than it is in ours. We are equally glad to see that same patriotick Spirit engaged them, to chuse a Committee to inquire after the doings of the General Assembly, about Seeking a Remedy of our Complaints, about the Things that very much grieve us ; which have been often mentioned in other News-Letters as well as yours, " We judge it be a good Example for the People to inquire at any Time, what the Assembly are doing for the good of those that sent them.-- In this Case the Committee tell us several Things ; and that a Petition well approved of was prepared, to be sent to his Majesty, (whom may God long preserve)Now it seems to us, that this Committee would have much better executed their Trust to have left off here, than they did by proceeding further in their Report ; unless they had a Mind to throw the Fault, if there was any, on their Superiors ; which we suppose they did not intend ; however, let us in a few Words consider their Account as it stands-The House agreed this Petition should be signed by the Speaker of the House, and to send it to the Agent, to present as aforesaid ; but a Letter came with it to the Agent, which the Speaker did not like, unless
