FREE TRADE.—The Hartford (Conn.) Times says:

"Col. Colt will sail for England on the 25th inst., where he will arrange to employ 400 men for European work. Had he succeeded here, so as to enlarge his works, he would have employed 300 of them in Hartford, and only 50 or 100 there. It will make a difference to our city whether his pay-roll is $50,000 a month, or $28,000—and quite a difference if nothing at all."

—So it seems that it would be better to have these 300 men employed in Hartford than in Europe. We have no doubt of the fact. It is for The Times to reconcile this position with the Free Trade Theory which its South Carolina alliance imposes on it the necessity of upholding.
