Full Text
It is said, that after the Spaniards had wrested their seaports out of the hands of the French, Murat, exercising the regency of the kingdom for Bonaparte, issued a decree, allowing American vessels detained in Spanish ports to depart; which evinces the same disinterested generosity as was shown by a witty son of Harvard in a will which he made on quitting college—who, having bequeathed all the property he had in possession, decreed as follows :—
"Item—two ragged homespun towels,
"For which I yearn with tender bowels,
"Since I no longer can controul 'em,
"I Give to those sly rogues who stole 'em."
