PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 10.

FROM RIO JANEIRO.

The ship Criterion; Capt. Chase, has arrived at Nantucket, from Rio Janeiro, which place he left the 27th Nov. Capt. C. informs that Admiral Stirling, touched at that place about the middle of November on his way to the River Plate: in coming out of Rio, Capt. spoke an English vessel in 8 days from the fleet off Montevideo, who informed him that the English had possession of a small place called Maldonado.

It was said Sir H. Popham was to be sent home under arrest for disobedience of orders.
