TERRIBLE EXPLOSION.—We learn from the Philadelphia Chronicle, that on Thursday an accident occurred at Jacob Hagstoz's sugar refinery, at the corner of Race and Crown streets, which it was thought at first would prove fatal. but fortunately terminated otherwise. In the cellar of the building is a large copper boiler used for the purpose of generating steam. A son of Mr. Hagstoz was in the cellar attending to the machinery, when the boiler bursted, blowing off the top of it and scalding young Mr. Hagstoz in a dreadful manner. The steam which escaped from the boiler, forced its way through the flooring of the first story, tearing away the floor, and threw Jacob Hagstoz, Jr., who was standing in the room, a distance of thirty feet, scalding him also very badly. A young man in another part of the premises, hearing the explosion, ran and threw a bucket of water on the fire hole, and he also was dreadfully burnt by the steam. Another individual at work in the building was also slightly scalded. The accident was the result of negligence.
