A MISTAKE.--The last number of the Coon "print in this town," says that "various attempts have been made within the last few days to revise and modify the present Tariff; but they have all been voted down." Did not the editor know that such was not the case? If he had said that several attempts to instruct the Committee of Ways and Means to revise and modify the Tariff in their report to the House on the subject, he would have been correct; but the article in his last paper, would lead the public to believe that the subject of the Tariff had actually been before Congress for discussion and final action. We hope he will set the matter right before his readers, as he is either mistaken, or has misrepresented the matter entirely. The propositions to instruct the Committee of Ways and Means were voted down because the majority have every confidence in the committee, and do not wish to embarrass them by instructions. So says the Globe which ought to be good authority.
