Trouble Between England and France.

Trouble is likely to ensue between England and France, owing to the latter claiming territorial rights over six hundred miles of coast of Newfoundland. The treaty rights on the part of England gave only the right to French fishermen to fish off that coast and to cure their fish thereon. The inhabitants of this coast having refused to pay taxes to the government of Newfoundland were threatened by the British officials, and the commander of a French frigate has espoused the cause of the people there, on the ground that it is virtually French territory. The matter has been brought to the attention of the different governments.

Mr. H. H. Ross of Vergennes has accepted the offer of the trustees to take charge of the Vermont Episcopal institute at Rock Point.

Copper has been discovered on the farm of Lyman U. Smith at Richford, and a foreign firm have leased the farm for one year for the privilege of working the same, they giving three thousand dollars.
