The Jackson Creep. The Jackson press is continually croaking about Democracy-Retrenchment-Reform-Patriotism-Liberty of the Press-Searching operation, and the freedom of Elections. What is the signification of all these terms as applied by the party?
Democracy means, a repetition of some of the party prejudices of Mr. Jefferson, and a blind devotion to men in office.
Retrenchment means, an additional number of officers-an increase of salaries-and twenty-five or six millions of dollars, taken from the public Treasury to oppress the Indians, &c.
Reform means, the turning out of office good and faithful public servants, and appointing in their places, miserable tools and profligates.
Economy means, a profuse expenditure of public money, to reward the "Hurra Boys."
Patriotism means, a support of men. right or wrong, a dissolution of the Union, a repeal of the Tariff, and a veto upon Internal Improvements.
Liberty of the press means, slandering opponents, deceiving the people, as to the motives and opinions of the government, and rewarding partizan editors with stuony
Searching operation, means the searching after scoundrel to fill responsible offices.
The freedom of elections means, the interference of public men, and the influence of official patronage in support of candidates pledged to support the Jackson cause:
This is a fair interpretation of these terms as used every day by the administration.
Providence American.
