We learn, verbally, from citizens who attended the great gathering of the Democracy of New Jersey, yesterday at Trenton, that it was one of the most imposing, tremendous and enthusiastic assemblages that has ever been known in the United States. Perfectly impartial judges estimate the number present at from 35,000 to 45,000 persons.
The trains; one consisting of twenty-five cars, all loaded to their utmost capacity, inside and out, were dispatched from Jersey City, and reached Trenton in safety. The delegation from Philadelphia numbered fifteen hundred. Every town and hamlet, from one extreme of New Jersey to the other, was largely represented.
Thousands upon thousands of the hardy yeomanry of the State, with their conveyances, from the single span to the twenty-four horse team, were present--every vehicle containing an upright Young Hickory, and hundreds of them crowded with the fair daughters of that part of the State.
Throughout the length of the Railroad the New York delegation was greeted, from almost every house with the smiles of beauty, the waving of handkerchiefs, and showers of bouquets.
The Ladies
The ladies of Trenton presented the Empire Club, of this city, a magnificent bouquet, forming a pyramid over six feet in great height.
We understand that Captain Stockton was the principal speaker up to the time our informant left.
