Full Text

It has been seen, that on Tuesday the 13th inst., the Senate of Massachusetts, made choice of Levi Lincoln, the present Governor of that State, to be a senator of the United States, in the place of Mr. E. H. Mills, whose term will end in March next. On the following day the House of Representatives took up the subject and passed a resolution by a vote of 115 to 98, referring the election to the next Legislature, which will meet on the last Wednesday in May; but a letter was previously received from Governor Lincoln, respectfully declining the honor of being considered a candidate. On Thursday, the House agreed to reconsider the vote of postponement, on information, it is said, that the declining health of Mr. Mills, makes it doubtful whether he will accept a re-election. Mr. Webster is spoken of as the successor of Mr. Mills.
