There are twenty-four papers published in Kansas at the present time. There are also ten printing presses lying idle.— Leavenworth Herald.
We think the editor of the Herald is mistaken in his figures, as we can find but twenty newspapers in the Territory now in operation, located as follows: —
Lawrence, 2; Lecompton, 1; Topeka, 1 Emporia, 1; Junction City, 1; Wyandotte 2; Leavenworth, 5; Atchison, 2; Palmyra, 1; Elwood, 1; Troy, 1; White Cloud, 1; Fort Scott, 1.
Of the presses lying idle, there is at Ottumwa, 1; Osawatomie, 1; Prairie City 1; Minneola, 1; Tecumseh,1; Topeka, 1; Quindaro, 1; Delaware, 1; Kickapoo, 1; Iowa Point, 1; Grasshopper Falls, 1; Sumner, 1; Palmetto, 1; Oskaloosa, 1; and how many more we don't know.
We hear of several new papers about being established, but we conceive a vast amount of courage is requisite to induce a person to engage in such a hazardous enterprise at this time, with so many wrecks in full view, and so many others in a crippled condition, and only living on hope.
