The recent appropriations will secure the completion of the Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad through this county in a short time, and we may look with certainty for the steam horse at Clark's Gap before next Spring, when the immense productions of Loudoun will begin to find easy access to market—to one of the finest harbors upon the Atlantic. This will be a great consummation for Alexandria and we know her citizens will do all in their power to urge on this improvement to the Valley of Virginia, and the inexhaustible coal regions of the State.
At as early a day as possible we should have the road in working condition to Clark's Gap. That will inspire confidence in the improvement, and arouse the people of the county to the necessity of its further completion. They will give more freely when they have a practical and actual demonstration of its advantages.
The graduation and masonry is nearly all completed between Clark's Gap and Alexandria, and a better located and more substantially constructed improvement is not to be found in the State. A few months will finish up all the work ready for the rails, and the sooner the cars are upon it the better for the improvement and all concerned.
The advantages of this improvement are too well known to be discussed; what we now want is all the expedition we can command upon its progress and the laying of the rails as far as can be done.—Leesburg Washingtonian.
