ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. The Florida Normal and Industrial Memorial College Lions defeated the Claflin Panthers 13 to 12 on Saturday, October 16. The win was the third straight victory for the Lions.
Claflin was leading during the first half 12 to 6. They scored on two great runs by Clarence Manning, one for 85 yards and another for 75 yards. The tries for both extra points were no good.
The Lions scored late in the second quarter on a quickie by James Drayton. The try for the extra point was made good by Waymon Selmore. The half ended 12 to 6.
The Lions returned after the half fighting. They held the Panthers to only two first downs throughout the entire second half.
The Lions made their second touchdown on a pass from Abraham Gordon to Jimmie Johnson. The try for the extra point was no good.
Walter Barnes was given the credit for setting up the second touchdown, with a tremendous catch from Gordon.
By the help of such players as Jefferson Jones, John Hoskins, William White, Herbert, Wilbert, Milton Steward and Rudolph Easton, the Lions were able to hold the Panthers to only two touchdowns.
The Lions will be home again next week when they meet the mighty Morris College from Sumter, S. C.
