Amherst, March 28.

The Rains.

It is judged, that at a moderate calculation; seven thousand dollars would not indemnify the small town of Milford, for the loss sustained by the late remarkable freshet; mills, bridges, fences and dams were wrecked and swept away, & whole fields of delightful interval almost ruined by the violence of the waters. The prospect exhibited by the waters flowing through fields, intervals and orchards is truly indescribable. In short such and so wonderous fierce was the rise of the waters, that it may almost with truth be said as of the ancient Nile,

"That the wild deluge overtook the haste
Even of the Hinds that watched."
