A Protest was published in Yesterday's Boston Papers, by Mr. William Winter, Notary Public, signed by several Persons, against John Malcom, for seizing, on the 7th Inst. in Kennebeck-River, the Schooner Freedom. On his being asked the Reason for his making the Seizure, he said,--"I have a Right to seize any Vessel I please, in the most private Manner, & am not obliged to give any Reason to any Body therefor, having Authority so to do by my Commission: and this Seizure will make all Coasters know my Power."--He also said, "I have not seized her for having contraband Goods, for I don't think she has any on board."
