Austria Is "German State and Will Work for European Peace
BERLIN, July 13.-Announcement is made that Germany has reaffirmed Austria's independence apparently bringing to an end a situation which has been fraught with danger for Europe. The announcement was made after an agreement with the Austrian government which contained the significant proviso that Austria declared herself a "German state."
Paul Josef Goebbels, German Minister of Press Propaganda, described this accord to his countrymen in a radio broadcast. He stated that the agreement provides that the two nations refrain from interfering in each other's internal affairs, and that both will co-operate in stabilizing the Central European situation. The latter is to be undertaken as two closely related German states although it is stated specifically that Nazism in both countries will be regarded as strictly an internal affair.
It is understood that the Austrians will permit the inclusion of one Nazi Minister in their Cabinet.
