LARGEST AMOUNT FOR BREACH PROMISE CASE EVER AWARDED IN UNITED STATES
DETROIT, Dec. 20, (AP)—Miss Bertha Clevenger was awarded $450,000 in her breach of promise suit against John H. Castle, wealthy Detroit real estate operator.
Judge Homer Ferguson, presiding, said that the amount was the largest ever awarded for a breach of promise case in the United States and twice the size of the next largest, the O'Brien-Manniny case in New York, of $100,000.
The Clevenger suit asked for $750,000; Castle's attorneys said they would make a motion for a new trial.
