Going Back to San Francisco to Settle Matters

Sioux City, Ia., June 3.-Morris C. Baum, alias H. A. Seaman, for eight years a prominent lawyer of San Francisco, and chairman of the Republican county central committee, is in the city. He left there two months ago with Miss Jessie Weir and made a trip to Germany and England in the capacity of agent to settle an estate. The pair landed at New York last week, and the woman went home.

Baum got this far and is awaiting funds. He left his affairs in bad shape, and acknowledges that he is about $10,000 short, but says his friends have fixed matters up so that he can go back in safety. He acknowledges that he committed forgery and embezzlement, and says he is waiting for money from San Francisco and intends to proceed West and face the music even if it lands him in the penitentiary.
