INTERNAL IMPROVEMENTS.
We are highly gratified to discover that a spirit of internal improvement seems to be manifesting itself, generally; through the state of Ohio, as well as through her sister states of the west. In Hamilton, a committee has been appointed to receive subscriptions for building a TOLL BRIDGE across the Great Miami river, to connect said place with Rossville.

Of the success of this undertaking we feel no doubt. The wealth that is accumulating amongst the Farmers and Merchants of that county, set in active operation by the public spiritedness of its holders, which seems to be manifesting itself, will undoubtedly enable them to accomplish so useful an undertaking. Public improvements of this kind speak for themselves: they indicate to the intelligent stranger the character of the people and the future destiny of the country in which they are observed.

The town of Zanesville, is becoming conspicuous for its manufacturing establishments and public improvements: The Manufactures of GLASS WARE, is now successfully going on in that place. Specimens of white hollow ware, for which the present establishment is alone intended; have been pronounced by judges equal to any of the kind manufactured in the United States.

The proprietors, it is said, intend early in the spring of the ensuing year to erect a more extensive establishment for the manufacture of green hollow ware, and window glass.

A Canal and Manufacturing Company are progressing handsomely in their contemplated improvements. A dam is erected across the Muskingum, above the mouth of Licking, at the head of the Falls, and considerable progress made in opening a canal; by which the whole river may be made subservient to propelling machinery. Extensive works are in contemplation to be erected the ensuing year.

A Patent Machine Nail Factory, has been erected, at present propelled by horse power, but may be moved by steam or water. It consists of two machines, which cut and head successfully at the same time, and will cut off the different sizes of nail from two to four hundred pounds each per day.

Two elegant toll bridges have been completed this season over the Muskingum, and are now in successful operation. The lower bridge, connects Zanesville with the town of Putnam, and is founded on stone piers of elegant workmanship. The upper bridge crosses from the end of main street, branches north and south from an island in the mouth of Licking creek, and affords the facility of crossing either the river, or creek, or both, at pleasure.

The Woollen Factory is established at Steubenville, which promises to be of great service to the country. They have procured a workman as superintendent, who acquired his knowledge of dying, the most difficult branch of the business in our infant establishments, in French Flanders, where this art has been brought to its highest state of perfection. The western country can now produce wool of the first quality, and if proper encouragement be given to establishments of this kind, there can be no obstruction, not only to a sufficient supply for home consumption, but for exportation to the southern, middle and eastern states. This would be giving the western states a proud pre-eminence over some sections of the union, that hold themselves high in comparison with us.—West. Spy.
