MOLIERE, the great Comic-Poet of France, was esteemed an excellent actor. He died in performing the part of the Hypochondriac, in a Comedy of his own writing, called Le Malade Imaginaire, (which is part of a Comedy in English called the Mother-in-law) on the 17th of February, 1673, in his grand Climacteric. The Archbishop of Paris would not allow his body to be inhumed in consecrated ground, which the King being informed of, sent for the Archbishop, and expostulated with him ; but he was an obstinate churchman, and would not willingly condescend to his Majesty's persuasions. The King, finding him unwilling to comply, desired to know how many feet deep the Holy Ground reached? The Bishop replied, "about eight." "Well," replied the King, "I find there is no getting the better of your scruples ; therefore let his grave be dug twelve feet, that is four below your consecrated ground, and let them bury him there." The Archbishop was obliged to comply ; for Louis XIVth would be obeyed.
A MAN, by the name of HERRING, being very sick, and his affairs in a deranged situation, expressed much concern to his brother, how his children would be provided for. "Hah!" said he, "take comfort, dear brother ; he that provideth food for the young ravens, when they cry, will undoubtedly take good care of the young Herrings.
