Men of wealth are the men of power—that is, vulgarly speaking. Men of capital have always dictated the price of labor within limits. The rich men have always controlled the rate of interest. They have always gathered the political and financial plums. They propose to sail, if possible, along this sure current of prosperity: hence their opposition to all measures tending toward the uplifting and upbuilding of the weaker and less favored. Hence, also their opposition to just legislation—bringing about a more equitable distribution of this world's goods. The men of wealth have had their way and their say for about thirty centuries; and the grinding of each year's grist grows thinner and poorer for the laborer and producer, and thicker and richer for the plute. It is a fact that a change of diet is essential to the continuance of physical health, so is a change beneficial to a nation's welfare. The people of this country have decided that there must be a change of political diet in '92, else the patient will succumb. It may be a lingering, agonizing death, but come it will as sure as fate, unless there be a change for the better. We all know the means of securing the remedy—the ballot, pure and unadulterated.
