S. G. Sutherland Re-elected President of the Clerks' Association.
The Retail Dry Goods Salesmen's Association had a large and enthusiastic meeting last night at their rooms in Turner Hall, and re-elected the following officers for the ensuing year.
President—S. G. Sutherland.
Vice President—P. J. McSorley.
Secretary—J. M. Frank.
Treasurer—M. J. Donovan.
The above also constitute the executive committee of the association.
The reading of the report of the special committee, which secured the merchants' agreement to the early closing system from June 1 to Oct. 1 was received with long continued cheers, and a committee was appointed to draft resolutions of thanks to the merchants, the ladies, the pulpit and the press for their indorsement of the early closing movement, and to pledge renewed fidelity on the part of the sales people to their employers, and continued zeal to please their employers and their customers.
The committee, which will report at an adjourned meeting next Tuesday night, is as follows: S. G. Sutherland, J. M. Frank, M. J. Donovan and J. J. Breslan.
It was decided to use all possible means to inform the shopping public in advance that the early closing season will begin June 1, and to urge, as far as possible, that the bulk of the shopping be done in the morning, as being the coolest part of the day, and thus lessen the tendency to late shopping.
