The Western Herald contains an account of the trial and acquittal of George W. Duffield, for the alleged murder of David Redick. This was the case currently published in the newspapers, which stated, that D. Redick was stabbed by G. W. Duffield, a cashier of a bank; in consequence of his making a demand for specie at the Bank.—The evidence adduced on the trial, shows, that the conflict arose in a magistrate's office, in consequence of an account left there by Redick, which Duffield disputed, upon which Redick requested the magistrate to commence a suit. That a quarrel took place, and the parties went to a tavern opposite to the Magistrate's, where it increased to great violence, and after much abusive language between them, they came out of the tavern, when the deceased struck Duffield once or twice, upon which, Duffield drew his dirk and stabbed the deceased. How the prisoner escaped a conviction for man-slaughter, we are at a loss to determine.—Franklin Gaz.
