Chief Justice Henry D. Ross
of the state supreme court has
announced his candidacy for re-election, subject to the Democratic primary, September 11th.

Judge Ross has been a resident of Arizona for forty-eight years. He first practiced law in Flagstaff, for about eight years, going thence to Prescott where he continued to practice in the territorial and federal courts until Arizona was admitted to the Union.

In announcing his candidacy, Judge Ross said:

"I have no platform. I mean by that I can make no promise except consecration to duty to the best of my ability. I have given many years of my life to the judicial department of the state. Twenty-three years ago the electorate of Arizona saw fit to choose me as a member of the supreme court of the state and has since, with unfailing trust, repeatedly honored me. I have been a part of the highest court since statehood. Whatever of praise or blame attaches to that tribunal I must share. I cannot, of course, claim immunity from error. Everybody and every human institution that I have known has erred. The best to be expected is an honest and conscientious effort to do right. That I believe all will accord me.

"From my experience as a member of the supreme court I know and can perform the duties of the office better than at any time in my life and will do so if reelected.

"The work of the court is very exacting and, in order to keep pace with it, it is necessary that the judges devote all their time to it. The people of Arizona can truthfully say that the supreme court since statehood has kept closer up with the work than any other appellate court in the United States.

"Owing to the imperative demands of the office, it will not be possible for me to see personally all of the voters, or even many of them, but I shall be glad, as I always have been, as opportunity affords, to meet and exchange greetings with them.

"I shall trust largely to those who know me and my work while on the bench to state my cause."
