Rev. and Mrs. Harvey E. Johnson, 568 Auburn Avenue, were hosts to the Ever-Ready Club of the First Congregational Church on Sunday, Feb. 13. Mrs. Mamye Raiford Hamilton, president, presided with Mrs. Maxwell McEwen, wife of the Rev. Homer McEwen, pastor of the church installing the officers.
At the impressive services, five candles were lighted, the first by Mrs. McEwen and the remaining four by Mrs. Carrie B. Harper, past president of the club with each candle representing some service rendered by the organization and its officers.
Installed at the candle light ceremonies were Mrs. Mayme Hamilton, president; Mrs. Marjorie Fowlkes, vice president; Mrs. Birdie Gaither, secretary; Mrs. Cordene Glass, treasurer; Miss Eloise Barner, floral treasurer and Mrs. Jeanette Stewart, chaplain.
The Rev. Johnson was in charge of the program. Little Ovella Bailey, a fifth grade pupil, thrilled the guests with two vocal selections and her own interpretation of "Woodman, Woodman Spare that Tree." Rev. Johnson recited "Building A Bridge."
After a brief business session, the meeting was adjourned to meet with Miss Josie Starks and Mrs. Jennie Roberts at 101 Clark Street, S. E. on the second Sunday in March.
