From the CRAFTSMAN,

SEPTEMBER I.

To the Printer.

A GREAT Personage, whose taste in the fine arts is unquestionable,

having lately given orders for the buying up of several pictures and statues, for the decoration of a great edifice now in contemplation, I send you a catalogue of those already purchased for that purpose, which you will please take the earliest opportunity of laying before your readers, viz.

A Jupiter Capitolinus--by Lord B--te.

A Roman Dictator, in chiaro obscuro----Duke of G--af--on.

A Tax-Gatherer, in transparent painting---Lord N..tb.

Penmanship, superior to any copper plate---Lord H-ll--d.

Nobody, in water colours--Duke of C---b--.-d.

A Slave Market on the Coast of America---Lord H.-lb---gh.

Ditto, in Ireland---Lord T-wn--d.

Polyphemus devouring the two Greeks, taken from the Aeneid of Virgil--Lord B-rr----n.

The Judgment of Paris reversed, with the following motto, "Datur Peffimo,"---Lord M-ns---d.

Belial, in alabaster, with the following character from Milton :--"He seemed for dignity composed and high exploit,

but all was false and hollow."--The same.

An Olive Branch,

worked in a gold ground, reckoned by connoisseurs the richest piece in England---Duke of B-.f--d.

A View of a rich Lead Mine in the county of York Boon- shine---Lord P-mf--t.

A Venus--Lord S--dw--h.

Mercury in brass--- J..--h D---.-n, Esq.

Besides the above originals,

which were purchased at an immense expence, we hear the collectors are in treaty for the following, viz.

Demosthenes in flame colour---Earl of C -th-m.

A Roman Praetor in lead---B--I-w T--ch---k, Esq;

A near View of the Island of Angleea--Lord V-.l--a.

A Cincinnatus-- Marquis of R--k-----m.

A Gladiator---Lord Sh--b--ne.

Those marked thus *, it is thought cannot be purchased at any price.
