COMMODORE RODGERS.
After several weeks of the most anxious solicitude on our part, the brave Rodgers has arrived at Boston on the 31st ult. with his squadron. Perhaps the intention of his cruize and the beneficial consequences which have resulted therefrom, have not been surpassed by any other expedition in the history of our Country. Yet, it is insultingly insinuated, that he has been peculiarly unfortunate; and, that "after an unsuccessful cruize of more than 2 months he has effected nothing." We deny the assertion, and declare, that if his whole squadron had been taken or destroyed, he could not have rendered a more essential service to his country than has been produced by his superior excursion.
He has detached the enemy from our coast—he has distracted and divided the Halifax fleet—millions of American property has arrived safe owing to this circumstance, which would otherwise have been lost, but for this wise and prudent maneuver. He has returned safe into port, and every true American is satisfied that he has done his duty.
